There are 3 types of railway switch points that pose a significant safety risk
• Manual switch points that are manually operated by a outside workers at marshalling yards, depot, parking areas, sea ports, private plants etc.
• Mechanical interlocking switches on the main lines that are manually operated by a signalman,
• Turnouts that are installed and locked on main lines prior their connection to the signaling system.
The risk is that the real position of the above-mentioned switch points is not always exactly known to operational staff. It could happen because of human mistake, mechanical damage or even hostile action.
Lack of the switch points real online position control, leads to ineffective operation, safety incidents, accidents and damages.
The new system adds computerized supervision of switch points position
in real time.
SWPSS introduces a relatively simple and inexpensive system that displays the status of the switch points on a computer screen, a tablet or a mobile phone used by the operational manager, who can supervise the switch points real position and routes in the yards, thus improving its safety. There is no change in switch points operation habits
The main features of the system:
• Supervision of switch points status – left/right/fail,
• Audio and visual alarm when the switch point is not supervised,
• Data recording log downloading and printout,
• Putting reminder when the switch point is out of supervision,
• Ability to write down train-sets data, different comments,
• Ability to display a route according to switch points position
• Ability to recognize switch point trailing
• Connection to a nearby signaling system to receive entrance/exit route information,
• Etc.
